Get to Know Me
Dr. Laura Dewey is a pediatric psychologist who specializes in autism. She also serves as a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and an editorial board member of Clinical Practice in Pediatric Psychology.
Why I Treat Children
My most important and rewarding work is — and always will be — serving children and families. This has become the foundation that inspires my commitment to community collaboration and advocacy.
What I'm Passionate About
I'm passionate about finding innovative solutions, and what better way to use this passion than to improve the lives of children and families? A lot of my work involves working with children and teens with autism. Autism is not a defining characteristic, but a complexity that enriches the lives of the individual, the family, the community and, ultimately, society. I'm a strong advocate for all of us to continue to improve the understanding of and response to autism in our communities. In this way, we can best meet the needs of our children and families impacted by autism.
How I Try to Make A Difference
My work involves psychological diagnosis, testing and assessment, as well as behavioral interventions, social skills groups and program development. In addition to my clinical activities, I'm also involved in a number of professional associations, such as the American Psychological Association, Delaware Psychological Association and the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR).
