Francis Ostrea, MD, is a primary care pediatrician based at Nemours duPont Pediatrics, Dover. He is a board-certified member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Being a primary care pediatrician and a parent, Dr. Ostrea understands exactly what parents go through. He loves every day of his work.
Why I Treat Children
I enjoy seeing children grow up in front of my eyes, being a part of their lives. When you鈥檙e a primary care physician, you鈥檙e the go-to guy for anything that happens in your patient鈥檚 life. I enjoy that, and the interaction with my patients and their parents. Being a primary care pediatrician is my dream job, I enjoy every day of my work.
What I'm Passionate About
I鈥檓 really passionate about what I do. I am proud of being in 鈥渢he business of saving people鈥檚 lives.鈥 This is what I want to do for the rest of my life.Having seen a lot of childhood asthma, I want to give my patients and their parents a full understanding of the disease. I believe that compliance with medications is dependent on understanding the whole disease process.For my adolescent patients, I know how awkward it must be for parents to talk to their own children about safe sex. I am a doctor who is willing to answer questions and give information in order to prevent unplanned teenage pregnancies.
How I Try to Make A Difference
I am very thorough. I talk to my patients and their families, sitting down face-to-face and listening to their concerns. I don鈥檛 talk to parents with my back turned while typing in my computer. I鈥檓 a parent myself, so I understand what parents go through in their homes. I always treat my patient families as if it was my own child on the examination table.
