Biography

Dr. Matthew R. Benson is a junior clinical scientist and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Mayo College of Medicine. His research includes an interest in bone health having studied screening tools for vitamin D deficiency as well as factors affecting nutritional rickets in Alaska Native Children. He has studied obesity in children and looked at lipoprotein sub-fractions in obese children as compared with lean children. He also has studied treatments for precocious puberty participating in a phase 3 trial that led to approval of a new subcutaneous gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist in children with precocious puberty. Of late, he has been involved in pivotal trials using artificial pancreas technology in type 1 diabetes mellitus.
