Even when a child in crisis is hours away from our hospital, we can bring life-saving heart and lung support technology to them. It鈥檚 called 鈥渆xtracorporeal membrane oxygenation鈥 (鈥淓CMO,鈥 for short).
During their trip to Nemours Children鈥檚 Hospital, Delaware 鈥 by helicopter, ambulance or airplane 鈥 a child鈥檚 heart and lungs can get help from a mobile ECMO machine. This gives these organs time to rest and heal. We鈥檙e the only hospital in the region to provide this advanced pediatric ECMO transport.
